International Tiger Day

International Tiger Day

Corbett Online 28 July 2023

Global Tiger Day, also known as International Tiger Day, is observed on July 29 every year to raise awareness of tigers' natural habitat. The 2010 Tiger Summit in Russia decided to commemorate a day specifically dedicated to the tiger and its wellness because raising awareness of tiger conservation is crucial since maintaining balance is necessary for a better tomorrow. Every nation has since celebrated that day differently. Every year is the time to raise awareness about tiger poaching or hunting that is utilised for different purposes, as these activities have a negative impact on the number of tigers throughout the world.

Tigers, one of the most iconic and endangered species on the planet, have been facing significant threats to their survival, primarily due to habitat loss, poaching, and illegal wildlife trade. International Tiger Day aims to shed light on the critical situation of tigers and to promote conservation efforts to ensure their survival for future generations. The day serves as a platform for various organisations, governments, wildlife enthusiasts, and individuals worldwide to come together, share information about tiger conservation

90% of tigers had disappeared by the early 2000s, and since then, organisations like the World Wildlife Fund(WWF) and the International Fund for Animal Welfare(IFAW) have joined this movement to launch a drive to protect and save this amazing species of wildlife. Since that time, a day has been set aside every year to honour the "tiger," a member of the Big Cat family, in order to raise awareness of the issue and advance the cause. According to the most recent data, India will be home to about 75% of the world's total tiger populations by 2023, which is unquestionably an indication that the idea behind the ‘International Tiger Day’ is progressing well and in the right direction.

By celebrating International Tiger Day, people from all walks of life can come together to show their commitment to the conservation of these magnificent animals and work towards ensuring a safer future for tigers in the wild.
