The mysterious death of elephant on 22nd December 2024at Bijrani range of Jim Corbett National Park raises multiple questions. What must have happened to the elephant? Why couldn’t the tiger attack the elephant? How the situation must have unfolded?
The wandering elephant caught the attention of tiger. And tiger voraciously chased the elephant for 3 days. The forest officials have captured the video of tiger chasing the elephant. In the race to save the life, elephant kept running without food and water for 3 days.
After the intense chase, the elephant was found dead on the deserted path of the Jim Corbett National Park. The tiger was even found chasing the last night of elephant’s death.
No traces of mishap have been traces in the elephant. Therefore, Jim Corbett official suspects that the giant tusker must have died due to tiredness and exhaustion. The circumstantial evidence showcases that the death occurred due to the relentless chasing of tiger.
Certainly, this isn’t the case of poaching. But the natural dynamics of predation in the wildlife.
The post mortem report suggests that male elephant was 20 to 25 years age. While the experts say that this one is a rare incident where tiger intends to attack an adult elephant.
Jim Corbett National Park has around 200 tigers and 1000 wild elephants. Besides, there have been multiple cases reported from the year 2014 to 2019 regarding the deaths of elephants. Wherein 60% of the death happened due to tiger’s attack on elephant.
